This can be seen in figures provided by Moneypenny, a telephone answering and live chat provider, which reveals a surge in enquiries to estate and letting agents in the aftermath of the December 2019 General Election.

The Moneypenny data shows a 22% increase in phone calls from people looking for property valuations, a 30% rise in calls looking to arrange viewings, and a 9% rise in calls from people looking to make an offer on a property. This all happened in the week after the General Election, and the increases are compared to the figures from the year before.

People are interested in buying a home

There was also an increase in the activity on live chat, appointment booking and chat services where people can request further information. The rapid development of technology creates more ways for people to engage companies, and it seems as though many people are taking advantage of the opportunity to connect with firms relating to property market matters.

In the week after the General Election, there was a 17% rise in live chats where the customer requested a home valuation. There was also a 16% increase in the number of live chats to arrange a property viewing.

Rightmove have experienced an increase in the market too

The figures from Moneypenny correspond with information contained in the House Price Index provided by Rightmove. The online property portal states there has been a 2.3% rise in the price of homes coming onto the market, a 7.4% rise in the number of agreed sales and a jump of 15% for buyer enquiries.

Joanne Tattum is the Channel Manager of Property at Moneypenny, and she said; “The General Election result brought a year of political and economic uncertainty to an end, which in turn helped to improve the confidence of house-buyers and encouraged them to put their plans into action.”

She continued by saying; “Unusual and unexpected spikes in enquiries such as this can often leave estate and letting agents overwhelmed as a result of inadequate resource, which in turn can lead to the loss of valuable business and a damaged reputation. By investing in outsourced support, property agents can cover all bases and rest assured that every lead is captured – no matter what new challenges the market presents.”

With buyers lining up to enter the market, there is an opportunity for vendors. If you are keen to sell your home, get in touch and we will arrange a property valuation. Contact Austin Property Services, and we will make sure you receive the best standard of service when selling your home.
